Cost & housing

Ravenna — Cost & housing

Ravenna offers Emilia-Romagna’s quality of life at an affordable price, with the Adriatic coast on its doorstep. It’s a mid-sized city where rent and buying both stay reasonable. The exception is that the coastal beach areas, the Lidi, cost noticeably more than the inland city.

Renting

Central one-bed (bilocale)The scored metricabout €700–950 / mo
Outside the centre, one-bedabout €550–800 / mo
Central two-bed (trilocale)Browse only — not scoredabout €1,150–1,500 / mo

These reflect a decent, functional apartment with a real kitchen and a lift. Cheaper exists if you compromise on condition or location; the coastal Lidi run higher.

Buying

If you’re looking to purchase:

Central Ravenna (per square meter)about €2,303 / m²
City average (per square meter)about €2,190 / m²
Coastal areas (Marina di Ravenna, the Lidi)higher

Prices are rising gently, up about 3.5% across the city year on year. Ravenna is one of the more affordable places to buy in the region, though the seaside areas carry a clear premium.

Other monthly costs

Utilities (electricity, gas, water — typical apartment)about €170–200 / mo
Monthly transit pass (Start Romagna urban)about €38 / mo

Utilities are a national market in Italy, so that range holds roughly anywhere. Ravenna’s Adriatic-side climate is milder than the inland plain, so costs sit moderate.

Our take

Ravenna is one of Italy’s quiet value surprises: a city with some of the greatest art in the world, a working port, and Adriatic beaches, at prices that stay affordable. If you’re renting or buying inland, your money goes far. The one real choice is coast versus city: the Lidi cost more and empty out in winter, while the historic centre gives you the culture, the life, and the value year-round.

That coast-or-centre call is really the first housing question here, because Ravenna is two places at once: a compact, art-filled historic city and a string of Adriatic beach resorts (the Lidi) a few kilometres away, and they price and live completely differently. The Lidi are lively and pricier in summer but quiet and cheaper off-season; the inland city stays steady all year.
