Campania

Campania is Italy at its most intense, most beautiful, and most contradictory. This is the region of Naples and the Amalfi Coast, of Pompeii and Capri, of the bluest sea and the most crowded streets in the country. It is loud, chaotic, ancient, and gorgeous, often all at once and on the same block. Campania does not do moderation. It hands you the highest highs in Italy, and asks you to make peace with the chaos that comes with them.
Region Profile
Landscape
A dramatic region wrapped around the Bay of Naples, dominated by the volcano Vesuvius. The coastline is world-famous, from the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast to the islands of Capri and Ischia. Inland, the land rises into green mountains and fertile farm country, the source of the region's celebrated mozzarella, tomatoes, and wine.
General Vibe
Intense, warm, expressive, and deeply social. Campania lives out loud, with a street life and a passion that have no equal in Italy. The people are famously open and generous. It is authentic and unfiltered rather than polished, rewarding those who embrace the energy and chaos rather than fight it.
Weather
Campania has a warm Mediterranean climate. Summers, June through September, are hot and sunny, often around 30 to 33°C (86 to 91°F), tempered by sea breezes along the coast. Winters are mild and wetter, rarely cold near the water. Spring and autumn are long, warm, and among the best times to be here.
Affordability
Campania offers some of the best value of any major region, with Naples running roughly 40 to 50 percent below Rome or Milan on rent. Prices climb sharply on the Amalfi Coast and the islands, which are premium, but the city and inland areas are very affordable. Check the condition of older buildings carefully before buying.
