Getting around

Vicenza is small, flat, and easy to live in without a car. The elegant Palladian centre walks end to end in fifteen minutes, buses cover the rest, and the city sits right on the Milan–Venice line, so Venice is under an hour and two airports are within easy reach on either side.
Getting there
By air
Vicenza has no airport of its own, but sits neatly between two. Venice Marco Polo (VCE) is about an hour east and Verona Villafranca (VRN) about forty minutes west, both full international airports. For long-haul you’ll usually route through Venice or a European hub.
From the airport into town
The simplest route from Venice Marco Polo is a direct FlixBus coach to Vicenza, or the airport bus to Venezia Mestre and a regional train on. From Verona, the Aerobus links the airport to Verona Porta Nuova, then a 25–40 minute train to Vicenza.
By train
Vicenza sits on the main Milan–Venice high-speed line, so Venice is under an hour, Verona and Padua are minutes away, and much of the north is a direct ride (times below).
Around the city
On foot
The historic centre is small, flat, and made for walking: the Palladian palazzi, the Piazza dei Signori, and the shops are all within an easy stroll, and most central daily life happens on foot.
Buses (SVT)
Vicenza’s local network is run by SVT (Società Vicentina Trasporti); there’s no metro or tram, but the compact city doesn’t need one. A single ride is €1.70, valid 90 minutes (SVT, 2026).
Intercity buses (FlixBus and Itabus)
A budget option for other cities. On Vicenza’s rail corridor the train is usually faster and more central, so most people take it, but the coach can win on price, and it’s the handy direct link to Venice airport. Check routes and fares on FlixBus ›
A note on driving
Vicenza's historic centre has a ZTL (limited-traffic zone) and tight parking, so a car is a burden in the core. It earns its keep mainly for trips out to the Palladian villas scattered across the countryside, or into the Berici Hills.
