Sorrento

Sorrento city skyline

Overview

Sorrento is the Amalfi Coast’s front door, and it’s been in the business of welcome for two hundred years. It sits on a tuff cliff above the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius smoking across the water, lemon groves at its back, and the whole south an easy hop away: Capri, Positano, Pompeii. The town’s small, walkable, and unfairly pretty, and it tends to speak English before you do. For a gentle landing in the Italian south, there are few softer places to fall.
