Venice

Venice city skyline

Overview

Venice is not like anywhere else on earth, and that is both the entire appeal and the entire problem. A thousand-year-old city built on water, with no cars, no roads, just canals, boats, and hundreds of stone bridges. It is staggeringly beautiful in a way that no photograph has ever quite captured, and it is also, for all that, one of the hardest places in Italy to actually live. Most people who dream of moving to Venice are dreaming of visiting it. The two are very different things, and the difference is worth understanding before you fall any further in love.
